God’s Armory

Anoint and dedicate your home

When to pray it: When you move in, or any time your home needs a fresh covering

Before you pray

  1. Get ready. Pour a little olive oil into a small dish and have your Bible with you. Ask the Lord to search your heart, and confess any sin first.

  2. Start at the front door. Put a little oil on your finger and touch the top of the door frame. Pray the prayer below.

  3. Go through every room. Touch each doorway and window, and pray over what happens in that room: rest, meals, work, family.

  4. Speak the Word as you go. Read Psalm 91 and Joshua 24:15 out loud.

  5. Finish together. If you can, gather your household and dedicate the home to the Lord as one.

The oil has no power of its own. It is a sign that you are setting your home apart for the Lord. The power belongs to God.

Stand on the Word

  • “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

    Joshua 24:15KJV

  • “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”

    Psalm 127:1KJV

  • “And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.”

    Deuteronomy 6:9KJV

  • “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.”

    Psalm 91:10KJV

The prayer

Lord, I come to dedicate this home to You. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it. So build this house, Lord. Be the foundation of everything that happens here.

As I anoint this doorway, I set it apart for You. Let everyone who walks through it feel Your peace.

There shall no evil befall us, neither shall any plague come nigh our dwelling. Anything that is not of You has no place here. In the name of Jesus, it must leave this home now.

Let Your Word be written on the posts of this house and on the hearts of everyone who lives here. Let this be a house of prayer, of love and of peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
