What does it mean to present your body a living sacrifice?

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
I've read this verse many times, but I'm not sure what it looks like in everyday life. A few things confuse me:
  • In the Old Testament a sacrifice was killed. How can a sacrifice be "living"?
  • Why does Paul say "bodies" instead of just our hearts or spirits?
  • What does "your reasonable service" mean?
  • How does verse 2, "be not conformed to this world," connect to being a living sacrifice?
  • What are practical ways to do this at work and at home?
A living green vine growing through a stone altar with holy fire, illustrating Romans 12:1 (KJV): “present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God.”
